DEPARTMENT OF METALLURGY
Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following positions in the Department of Metallurgy:
JOB TITLE: Professor/Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in the following specializations:
- Pyrometallurgy (01 Position)
- Physical Metallurgy/Material Science (01 Position)
Job Purpose
To perform teaching duties at undergraduate and graduate levels, to undertake original individual and collaborative research and participate in academic activities of the University.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with peers in other universities and academic institutions and keep abreast of recent advances in the area of specialization.
- Involvement in curriculum development at departmental and school levels.
- Involvement in community service in the area of specialization.
- Setting and assessment of examination papers and assessing a portfolio of evidence.
- Supervise students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Assist with administrative duties in the department and/or school.
- Attendance of developmental workshops for teaching and learning, and participation in tutoring and mentoring activities.
Qualifications and Experience:
Position for Pyrometallurgy
- Grade 12 or Form V Certificate minimum of 5 “O” Levels with credit or better in English and Mathematics.
- Bachelor of Engineering in Metallurgical Engineering or its equivalent from a recognized university.
- A Master’s degree in the same area as the Bachelor’s degree is a must. The Master’s Degree must command respect in Pyrometallurgy or its equivalent.
- An earned PhD in Metallurgical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited university.
- A minimum of four (4) years of relevant tutoring and lecturing experience at any institution of higher learning.
- The applicant must be registered with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) and Engineers’ Registration Board or any other reputable institution.
Position for Physical Metallurgy/Material Science
- Grade 12 or Form V Certificate minimum of 5 “O” Levels with credit or better in English and Mathematics.
- Bachelor of Engineering in Metallurgical Engineering or its equivalent from a recognized university.
- A Master’s degree in the same area as the Bachelor’s degree is a must. The Master’s degree must command respect in Physical Metallurgy/Material Science or its equivalent.
- An earned PhD in Physical Metallurgy/Material Science or equivalent from an accredited university.
- A minimum of four (4) years of relevant tutoring and lecturing experience at any institution of higher learning.
- The applicant must be registered with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) and Engineers’ Registration Board or any other reputable institution.
Knowledge and Skills
- Applicant should have demonstrated experience in teaching in a higher institution of learning, proven research, and publication background.
- Strong commitment to teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in discharging duties.
- Developed a strong research program, outstanding publication record in high-quality refereed journals.
- Experience in distance learning and online teaching in Higher Education will be considered an added advantage.
