Job description:

Overall Job Purpose

The Service Technician services and maintains mobile fire suppression systems on field, mobile, and ancillary equipment.

Specific Job Responsibility

  • Servicing of fire suppression systems including annual maintenance, recharging or repair and hydrostatic testing.
  • Render technical advice on protection equipment and techniques, as well as fire code standards and interpretation and compliance.
  • Report all safety incidents immediately to the Supervisor.
  • Maintain the correct and safe usage of all hand tools and company property within the section.
  • Report all defective tools, record and control all replacement of tools.
  • Any other duties as directed by the Electrical Shift Supervisor.
  • Provide technical support and fault management to the production and Maintenance teams.
  • Liaise with ERT in the maintenance of various fire suppression systems and fire extinguishers.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and as necessary depending on the situation and location

Experience Qualifications

  • At least 3 years’ working experience in Mine environment or equivalent
  • Sandvik Eclipse System green, grey or gold card holder.
  • Knowledge in Basic First Aid and Basic Health and Safety
  • Driving license
  • Certificate in Fire Suppression Systems
  • Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, Electronics, Environmental Studies, or equivalent.
  • Full Grade 12 Certificate

Job Specific Competencies

  • Team work, leadership, result orientated, problem solving, decision making, responsibility, communication skills
  • Diagnoses equipment problems and determines repairs needed
  • Performs daily safety and maintenance checks on trucks, heavy mining equipment, graders, dump trucks, and excavators
  • Practices workplace safety
  • Adhere to workplace safety policies, regulations and compliances.
  • Communicate any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to the supervisor in order to facilitate prompt correction or reporting.
  • Perform repairs on fire suppression mining equipment in the workshop, PM bay, in-pit or anywhere within the mine premises when required.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology and repair techniques.
  • Other mechanical repair work as required.
  • Should be able to demonstrate knowledge in various systems such as Sandvik, ANSUL, AFFEX, etc.
  • Must be able to identify hazards, fire prevention and know the different methods of fire prevention
  • Must demonstrate working knowledge of machines such as electrical operated and hydrocarbon operated
