The World Health Organization (WHO) office in Zambia wishes to recruit a suitably qualified, experienced, capable and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Study Data Manager for conduct of verification study at University Teaching Hospital Department of Pathology and Microbiology Virology Laboratory
Duration of Special Services Agreement – Contract
Four (4) Months
Background
The World Health Organization HIV testing guidelines recommend a standard HIV testing strategy consisting of three consecutive HIV-reactive test results on serology assays to diagnose HIV infection. Furthermore, the guidelines recommend use of dual HIV/syphilis rapid diagnostic tests as the first test for pregnant women in antenatal care settings. A verification study of HIV testing algorithms is strongly recommended by WHO prior to decisions on procurement of specific products and before widespread roll-out.
Summary of Duties
The study data manager working under the study supervisor at the University Teaching Hospital Department of Pathology and Microbiology Virology Laboratory will be responsible for the following;
- Data management
- Creation of study database
- Reviewing study data to ensure fidelity
- Analysis of study data
Deliverables:
Data set for use by the Ministry of Health for the study and policy decision making
Education (Qualifications)
Essential: Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited recognized institute
Experience:
- Relevant professional experience of at least 5 years in database management
- Familiar with advanced statistical package (preferably – R, STATA, and Prism)
- Experience working with or knowledge on DHIS II, SmartCare and Laboratory Information Systems including Disa’lab or any other electronic Health Records (EHR) systems
- Demonstrated experience in management of large datasets and databases and supporting various reporting requirements
- Proven ability to problem-solve and learn new data technologies, systems, and processes
- Knowledge and experience on process of study design and methodology for verification studies of HIV testing algorithms
- Prior experience for the conduct of verification studies, as well as development of systems the program uses.
Functional Skills and Knowledge
- Computer literacy (knowledge of MS Office, Internet, E-mail, other office tools)
- Fluent in English, with very good writing skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure while producing results.
- Strong sense of responsibility and initiative
