The World Health Organization (WHO) office in Zambia wishes to recruit a suitably qualified, experienced, capable and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Study Supervisor for conduct of verification study at University Teaching Hospital Department of Pathology and Microbiology Virology Laboratory
Duration of Special Services Agreement – Contract
Five (5) Months
Background
The World Health Organization HIV testing guidelines recommend a standard HIV testing strategy consisting of three consecutive HIV-reactive test results on serology assays to diagnose HIV infection. Furthermore, the guidelines recommend use of dual HIV/syphilis rapid diagnostic tests as the first test for pregnant women in antenatal care settings. A verification study of HIV testing algorithms is strongly recommended by WHO prior to decisions on procurement of specific products and before widespread rollout.
Summary of Duties
The study supervisor working in collaboration with the verification study team at the University Teaching Hospital Department of Pathology and Microbiology Virology Laboratory will be responsible for the following;
- Management and oversight of the tasks required for successful completion of the study
- Study protocol development
- Conduct and administration of the research study to ensure successful completion of the study
- Supervision of study staff at both the National Reference Laboratory and study recruitment sites
- Ensuring that the study is in compliance with the terms and conditions of the IRB approval
- Ensuring that study participants rights are always respected, and any participants concems are addressed
Deliverables:
- Comprehensive study report at the completion of the study
- Propose HIV 3 test algorithm for general population and antenatal care setup
Education (Qualifications)
Essential: Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from an accredited or recognized institute
Experience:
- Relevant professional experience of at least 10 years in HIV Testing Services
- Experience in conducting verification studies for HIV testing technologies
- Competent in use of statistical packages such as R, STATA and Prism.
- Proven ability to problem-solve and leam new data technologies, systems, and
processes - Knowledge and experience on process of study design and methodology for verification studies of HIV testing algorithms
Functional Skills and knowledge
- Computer literacy (knowledge of MS Office, Internet, E-mail, other office tools)
- Fluent in English, with very good writing skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure while producing results.
- Strong sense of responsibility and initiative
