Protection Technologist (01)

Grade: CEC8 | Contract Type: Permanent

This position is responsible for carrying out assignments related to installation, commissioning, modification, and repair of protection equipment to ensure reliability, stability, and selectivity in the operation of all protection schemes. This role reports to the Senior Engineer – Protection.

What you will be expected to do for successful & optimal performance:

  • To implement condition-based maintenance on protection equipment to achieve integrity of operations.
  • Investigate and rectify defects to ensure that equipment continues to be in use on the system, thereby assuring that customers remain connected to the system.
  • To assist in installation, modification, and commissioning of protection equipment as required by the Protection Engineers for the purposes of customer load expansions and equipment replacement.
  • Ensure that accurate records and drawings are kept for installed protective equipment for the purpose of easy maintenance in case of defects.
  • Adhere to statutory and domestic regulations in particular those relating to safe working practices in order to minimise injury to personnel and damage to company assets.
  • Carry out maintenance activities in the most efficient and effective manner to ensure that the same are performed right the first time.
  • Undertake any other jobs that may be added from time to time in compliance with company programmes of multi-skilling.
  • Undertake and complete given assignments within allocated time frame to avoid unnecessary overtime.
  • Ensure that all company resources are used solely for company purposes and that there is no misuse of assets such as vehicles, tools and other materials.

To be considered for this role, you will be required to have:

  • Full Grade Twelve School Certificate
  • Diploma in Electrical & Electronics Engineering
  • Two years relevant experience
  • Member of EIZ

Specific Competencies

  • Understanding of power systems protection
  • Understanding engineering drawings with bias towards protection schemes
  • Computing skills, oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to write technical reports
