Key Responsibilities
Contract Management
- Ensure effectiveness of transport contacts HSE requirements
- Upkeep of Transporters fleet list and driver training matrix.
- Conduct with Country Procurement and Transport Manager at least once a year transport contract review with transporter
HSE and Operational Excellence
- Analyse monthly HSE performance of transport and seek continuous improvements to guarantee safe operations during products transport and deliveries
- Assist the Transport Coordinator being the main person on the ground guiding and coaching transporters and drivers to adhere to PUMA HSE standards
- Conduct regular field appraisal/audit of all transporters. Identify gaps to be closed with regards to audit findings.
- Ensure Puma’s HSSE and transport control policies, are implemented in terms of both actions and decisions to prevent accidents and harm to the community, staff or the environment.
- Conduct incidents, accident and spillage investigations which include compiling related reports and monthly statistics.
- Compile and analyse monthly transport HSE KPI statistics
- Follow up closely with the transporters the whereabouts on the trucks to ensure adherence to journey management plan
- Keep all records of all safety checks and safe loading passes issued for vehicles loading at our facilities.
- Contribute with Transporters and keep updated records of all route risk assessments and job observations.
- Build strong relationship, in strong coordination with the Transport Manager, HSE excellence culture with the transporters and the drivers via the Drivers league:
- Ensure monthly monitoring of the drivers’ behaviour using IVMS data
- Populate on a monthly basis drivers’ performance ranking
- Organise once a year the drivers’ and transporters award ceremony
- Coordinate proper and timely major incidents investigation in coordination with transporters
- Ensure proper actions taken by the transporter on drivers’ behaviour non-compliances
- Support transporters with the intention of improving operational and technical standards in alignment to Operating country legislation and Puma Energy standards.
Requirements
- Mechanical degree (ZQF level 6) with minimum 5 years field experience
- HSE qualifications in Transport of dangerous goods
- Ability to preach HSE to drivers and transport support staff for a mindset change towards improving their HSE awareness
- Ability to effectively interface with third parties: transporters, drivers, terminals/depots, internal and external customers
- Hands on experience in conducting vehicle and safety audits in a dangerous goods road transportation environment.
- Sound knowledge of dangerous goods road tankers and equipment used.
- Hands on experience in conducting vehicle and safety audits in a dangerous goods road transportation environment.
- Proven record of accomplishment as being able to self-manage, motivate and coach others.
- HSE risk assessment in Transport Operation
- Incident / accident investigation
- Tool box meeting
- Transport emergency response plan
- Knowledge of general business software and aptitude to learn new applications; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Fluent in English. Ability to communicate in local languages or accessible English to low educated population is a plus
