The University of Lusaka is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of Matron (1) to facilitate in the management of its hostels at Silverest Campus. The major responsibility will be to maintain the hostel and manage the welfare of all those in boarding.
Main Responsibilities
- The Matron will participate in the orientation and induction of new students to help them settle in the University hostels and ensure that there is a conducive environment for both studying and residing.
- Monitor the behaviour of those in boarding to ensure that their behaviour is in conformity to the University set guidelines. The
- Matron will be required to be understanding and empathetic with the boarders, balancing a friendly disposition with the need to maintain discipline.
- Participate in the organising of extra curricula activities such as sports and other activities that help in shaping the students character.
- Attend to all students who fall sick and recommend appropriate action which will include but not limited to, taking the ill student to a health facility as well as administering first aid.
- Keep record of all treatments administered to those in boarding.
- Reporting all incidents relating to those in boarding to the University Resident Officer.
- Conduct regular checks in the student hostels to ensure that all boarders are complying with the hostel rules and regulations.
- Timely communication of any faults and any other maintenance related issues to the University Resident Officer.
- To ensure the safety and security of all boarders at all times within the University hostels.
Key Qualities
- Self-motivated and must be able to work with minimum supervision.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Highly organised.
- Ability to work long hours and weekends.
Qualifications
- Diploma in Hostel Management.
- Diploma in Clinical Counselling or Diploma in Nursing.
- Full Grade Twelve Certificate.
- A Certificate in the following Programmes; Psychosocial Counselling, First Aid Training as well as Health and Safety.
- Three (3) years’ experience in a similar role will be an added advantage.
- Possession of a valid driving license will be added advantage.
