INVITATION FOR APPLICATIONS
The Golden Valley Agricultural Research Trust (GART) is a Public-Private Partnership research institution. GART wishes to invite applications for the following vacant position at its Livestock Development Centre in Batoka.
(1) LIVESTOCK RESEARCH OFFICER
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Senior Livestock Research Officer, the Livestock Research Officer shall;
i. Participate and provide expertise in Adaptive and Applied Research and Development of Smallholder Livestock Systems
ii. Participate in the generation and implementation of Smallholder livestock development strategies
iii. Supervise Livestock Research Technicians
iv. Contribute to Livestock Technology dissemination through Scientific Publications, Field days and fairs, and the GART website
v. Provide Motivational training to farmers and students under the GART Foresight program
vi. In partnership with key staff, establish and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholder institutions
vii. Any other livestock research and development related work as assigned by the senior livestock research officer.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate should have the following qualifications
i. A minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science or equivalent from a reputable University.
ii. A least with 3 years experience in Livestock Research or Production
iii. Ability to develop and implement protocols for livestock research and development
iv. Experience in livestock breeding will be an added advantage
v. Conversant with quantitative and qualitative methods for data collection and analysis
vi. Demonstrated competency in Project Planning
vii. Motivated and a team player
viii. Ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external partners
ix. Must be familiar with the various players and linkages within the livestock sector in Zambia
