John Snow, Inc. (JSI) seeks highly qualified and accomplished public health leaders and providers for the recently awarded United States Agency for International Development (USAID)/PEPFAR-funded Supporting an AIDS-Free Era (SAFE) Project in Zambia. The five year project which will be led by JSI in partnership with Abt Associates, mothers2mothers, and the Catholic Medical Mission Board, will work to reduce HIV mortality, morbidity and transmission, while improving nutrition outcomes and family planning integration in three provinces: Central, Copperbelt, and North-Western. USAID/PEPFAR SAFE will work with the GRZ, private sector and civil society institutions at the national, provincial, and district level to increase access to ART for HIV positive adults and children, reduce the incidence of new infections, improve Nutritional Assessment, Counseling and Services (NACS) and family planning services, and increase the capacity of local health institutions to better serve affected populations

Job Summary:

The Community Director is a full-time position and individuals will be based in the Copperbelt regional office. S/he will support community infrastructure and design strategies to identify/strengthen linkages with regional health system and assist communities in assessing needs and designing strategies for resource mobilization. The Community Director will work together with the regional and central office staff to integrate lessons learned and encourage transfer of best practices to increase sustainability at the community level. S/he will report to the Regional Director in his/her office.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

Work with the Community Leadership Advisor to translate conceptual frameworks of community health including those aimed at mobilizing communities for HIV/AIDS, FP, MNCH, VMMC and other health services into practical interventions;
Provide leadership to Community Mobilization Officers and community volunteers including Community Health Workers as they undertake the much needed community health voluntary work;
Ensure that community based volunteers are well equipped with knowledge and skills through training, refresher training and mentorship programmes using tried and tested methodologies;
Provide leadership in the mobilization of students at universities, colleges, and schools so that they also access HIV/AIDS, FP, and other services;
Mobilize lecturers, religious leaders, workplace leaders and traditional leaders to mobilize their constituents to seek and access health services;
Represent SAFE in community health related meetings at provincial level;
With community health workers/volunteers and clinicians, ensures effective implementation of the community aspects of differentiated models of service delivery in the province; and
Where CBOs are sub-granted to provide community health services, supervise and support sub-grantees.

Desired Qualifications:

BA/BSc in Social Science, Health or Nursing;
MPH, MSc or MA in social science, Nursing Education, Adult Education or their equivalent;
Demonstrated capacity and experience of working with community to deliver health services for at least 5 years;
Team player;
Conflict management skills and
People centered leadership.
