Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a highly committed employee for the position of Database Geologist to join the Mineral Resources Department.
Reporting to the Senior Geologist – PFS, you will maintain the geological database by ensuring all data is collected and imported into the database promptly and is of high quality for input into the construction of the grade control block model. Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
- Provide guidance and technical support to Geo’s and other users
- Informing end users of changes in databases and training them to utilize systems
- Establish the needs of users and monitor user access and security
- Control access permissions and privileges
- Establish the needs of users and monitor user access and security
- Install, implement, and upgrade Database Management System installations
- Proactively and regularly make recommendations for system improvements
- Collate, prepare, and present statistical information for internal and external use
- Database Administration (Frontend & Backend)
- Prepare monthly/quarterly QAQC reports and presentation
- Ensure that QA/QC sample material is adequately stocked and report any discrepancies.
- Assist with the management of sample submission of grade definition samples and monitor lab turnaround.
- Comply with all relevant MOS (Management Operating System) requirements.
- Implement and maintain safe work procedures and promote high safety and health awareness. Promote and comply with the LMC Occupational Health & Safety Policy.
- Accountable for completion of all tasks identified in the Management Operating System (MOS) to the specified quality and timelines as assigned to this role
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Geology or equivalent
- Member of the EIZ, GSZ or equivalent
- Knowledge of QA/QC procedures and its implementation
- Knowledge of sampling and splitting procedures
- Able to demonstrate the aptitude to drive a light vehicle and hold a current Zambian driver’s license or be able to obtain one.
- Good computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems, word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet applications.
- Proficient in Data Analysis
- Prior experience with Data shed or AcQuire database software
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Access and any other SQL Server based relational databases will be an added advantage.
- Knowledge of RC and Diamond Drilling
