Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a highly committed employee for the position of Mine Geologist to join the Mineral Resources Management Team.
Reporting to the Coordinator- Production Geology, you will coordinate the drilling, sampling, and collection of high quality geological data, validation and interpretation of the data for input into the construction of resource models of the Lumwana ore bodies and ensure that all work programs are to be implemented consistent with sound world class operating principles as well as optimizing the financial objectives of the business. Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
- Ensure adherence to all statutory requirements and Company Safety, Health and Environmental standards and procedures.
- Lead sub-ordinates by setting the example and provide them with clear and correct instructions.
- Actively participate daily in the ore control activities i.e., attending meetings, ore block mark outs and dilution control.
- Zero reports of noncompliance or delays to operations.
- Supervise sample collection for accuracy and consistency, timely delivery to lab.
- To ensure all material mined is tracked and assigned to correct designation.
- To ensure the daily planned feed grade material is delivered to the process plant.
- Understand and communicate geology plan to mine supervisors to ensure ore is mined to maximise grade and minimise ore loss and dilution.
- Design ore blocks and ore block review.
- Assist in provision of geological support to mining operations and process plant.
- Daily reconciliation process to reconcile planned with actual production data and provides input and feedback in planning meetings at both mining and processing sections.
- Perform daily monitoring and inspection of active mining faces.
- Report on all geological changes on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, highlight the impacts on mine plan.
- Development of the geological technician team in terms of skills and understanding of all geological activities.
- Correcting any procedure non-conformances through discussion with the shift supervisors.
- Mentor and provide training for Geological Technicians to improve their general knowledge of geology, and ore body styles and characteristics.
- Encourage teamwork and adopt management philosophy to keep personnel motivated and producing a high standard of work.
- Perform work inspections of areas under your control, and document findings according to procedure.
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
- Bachelor of Science – Majoring in Geology
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience in mining geology associated with large open cut mines.
- Strong computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), familiarity with Vulcan and Leapfrog software preferred.
- Be familiar with mining in large open cut mines and knowledge of their management principles and philosophies would be advantageous.
- Be physically fit and be able to pass pre-employment medical examinations.
- Good planning and organizational skills
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills in the English language.
- High level of responsibility and shows accountability for own actions.
- Hold a valid Zambian driver’s license.
- Must be a member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).
