Clinical Lecturer Positions University of Lusaka

The University of Lusaka which is one of the leading private Universities in Zambia has continued to expand and has a robust clinical training program for its MBChB students since August 2019. In this regard, the School of Medicine is calling for suitably qualified persons to fill the Full-Time Clinical Lecturer positions listed below to support the MBChB clinical training in the following key areas:

(1.) Psychiatry (2.) Internal Medicine (3.) Orthopedics (4.) Cardiology (5.) Pathology (6.) Obstetrics & Gynecology

These positions may be applied for at any of the three (3) academic ranks, namely Clinical Professor, Clinical Associate Professor, Senior and Clinical Lecturer in the Department of Clinical Sciences. The posts will involve clinical work and clinical teaching in the various clinical placement areas where the students on the MBChB students are currently doing their rotations.

 

 

1. PROFESSOR

Description

This is a senior academic position requiring extensive experience in administration of academic programs, an international track record in training, research and teaching.

Responsibilities:

  • To conduct high quality research in the field of clinical sciences.
  • To teach undergraduate and postgraduate students in the field of clinical sciences.
  • To manage both undergraduate and postgraduate students’ results for both continuous and final assessment.
  • To supervise and mentor junior staff in the field of clinical sciences.
  • To provide academic oversight relating to staff recruitment, staff development, staff performance, student admission, progression and examination.
  • To participate in academic planning for the School and the University.

Qualifications

  • Basic Medical degree-MB ChB, MBBS or equivalent
  • Clinical Postgraduate qualification-M. Med in a clinical field, Fellowship of the Royal colleges of the United Kingdom (FRCS, FRCP etc.) or equivalent.
  • Registration as a Specialist with the Health Professionals Council of Zambia.
  • A minimum of Five (5) years teaching/research experience.

Additional Requirements

These qualifications are not essential but will be looked upon as enhancing the application.

  • Additional postgraduate degree in medical science or research such as MSc, MPH, PHD etc.
  • Previous appointment in this rank in other training institutions.
  • A qualification in Teaching methods eg Certificate or diploma in Medical Education

1. ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/SENIOR LECTURER

Description

This is a senior academic position requiring experience in administration of academic programs, an international track record in training, research and teaching.

  • Ten (10) years teaching/research experience

  • Additional Postgraduate Public Health or Science degree such as MSc, MPH, PHD etc.
  • Previous appointment at this rank in other training institutions.
  • A qualification in Teaching Methods eg Certificate or Diploma in Medical Education

1. LECTURER

Description

This is an academic position at three levels of potential appointment, Lecturer 1, 2 and 3. The applicant is required to have some experience or interest in administration of academic programs, training, research and teaching.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and improve course outlines and teaching materials for the assigned courses.
  • Supervise students’ research work and should be able to teach the assigned courses.
  • Prepare lesson plans at the start of each semester for the assigned courses.
  • To conduct or participate in basic research.

Qualifications

  • Basic Medical Degree-MB ChB, MBBS or equivalent
  • Clinical Postgraduate qualification – M. Med in a clinical field, Fellowship of the Royal colleges of the United Kingdom (FRCS, FRCP etc.) or equivalent.
  • Registration as a Specialist with the Health Professionals Council of Zambia.
  • A minimum of Three (3) years teaching/research experience.
