Focal Point Person (FPP) FoSReCs Project

ZARI- Mochipapa Research Station is implementing a three-year (2022 to 2025) project, “Enhancing Food Security through Integration of Climate Resilient Crops in Maize based Farming Systems among Small-scale Farmers in Zambia and Namibia” (FoSReCs), funded by the Southern African Science Service Centre for Climate Change and Adaptive Land Management (SASSCAL).

Climate change is a challenging phenomenon in Africa, and Zambia in particular, especially among smallholder farmers whose livelihood is dependent on agriculture. In order to enhance farmer resilience against climate change effects FoSReCs project is being implemented in five districts as indicated above. The project is using a holistic approach including; Area Specific Crop Diversification (ASCD), Farmer Field School (FFS) and Demonstration blocks as a way to reach the desired number of beneficiaries in the target districts. The expected impact of the project intervention is that smallholder farmers, will have enhanced knowledge and skills in producing various improved crop varieties, nutrition, marketing, and climate smart agriculture.

The project would like to employ five (5) suitable individuals in the position of FPP to implement activities in targeted agriculture camps of respective district.

Tasks and Responsibilities of the FPP

  • Coordinating activities at agriculture camp level
  •  Community mobilization
  • Write monthly, quarterly and annual reports
  • Work closely with project staff and farmers.
  • Work and collaborate with different stakeholders
  • Provide technical assistance and backstopping to famers in FFS and Demos

Qualifications and Requirements:

Minimum of Diploma in General Agriculture, Agriculture Extension, Crop Science or related field.

Other knowledge and additional competences

  • Ability to communicate in local language of the respective district will be an added advantage
  • Experience in implementing climate smart agriculture will be an added advantage
  • Ability to work and live in a rural area
  • Ability to ride a motorbike and possess a valid licence
  • Strong understanding of climate change
  • Strong understanding of group dynamics
  • Ability to use computers and computer applications e.g., Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to communicate ideas in a clear and concise manner.
  • Strong training and capacity building skills and ability to promote behaviour change.
  • Strong organisational and mobilisation skills
  • Strong time management skills with ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities. high level of motivation and ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
