The company’s market share is estimated at over 90% of the Amethyst originating from Zambia, and we are arguably the largest single Amethyst producer in the world. Presently, the company exports mainly to China and India. Worldwide, it is one of the oldest mines for semi-precious stones and one of the largest sources of quality amethysts. Kariba Minerals is based in Mapatizya which is approximately 110km from Kalomo in the Southern Province.
The company is therefore inviting for applications from highly motivated, result oriented, qualified and experienced persons to fill the following vacancy:
Mine Geologist
Key Responsibilities
1. Assist in the preparation of daily, weekly, monthly and annual production planning information and technical reports in order to provide input into short, medium and Long Term Planning.
2. Delineation of areas for development and ore mining as well as monitoring of blast hole drilling.
3. Strive to achieve quality daily ROM and production targets, as per the Business Plan, in a safe and secure environment.
4. Responsible for field work involving exploration, mapping, recording structural data of different lithological units and their relationship, alteration characteristics and nature of contacts with amethyst veins.
5. Assessing potential mineral deposits, including locating and using geological surveys, Ground Penetration Radar, seismic data analysis, or other methods.
6. Ensure geological sections are created and updated monthly for historical and current excavation zones.
7. Monitor stockpiles and plant blend and minimize external dilution/ contamination of the ore feed.
8. Reconciliation of Ore and Waste with survey measurements in order to finalise the month end report.
9. Undertake field assessments and ground checks of key material characteristics at active mining faces to ensure model data is aligned
10. Preparation of Technical reports based on geological findings and interpretation for medium to long term planning.
11. Conducting Pit Inspections and mining operations in order to measure, record and assess Pit wall stability.
12. Identifying, preparing maps of mineral deposits using computer software programs such as GIS (geographic information systems) or CAD (computer-aided design)
13. Update and Maintain the geological database and wireframe model from drill hole data, logging and chip sampling
Job Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or equivalent from a recognised University
2. Member of EIZ or eligible for registration as a member of EIZ
3. Minimum of three (03) years’ hands on experience in a Production Geology role with strong technical skills.
4. Familiar with the SAMREC/ JORC Code reporting system
5. Field experience and strong exposure to mine operations and technologies.
6. Technical skills include computer programs, data analysis, mapping, data collection and interpretation.
7. Experience in Mine Planning Software and Geological Modelling Software such as GEMS, Datamine, Surpac or Deswik
8. Excellent knowledge of Mining Regulations
9. Proficiency in the following:
- Computer literate and Proficiency in MS Office
- High level of communication skills – verbal and written.
- Excellent analytical and evaluation skills
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize time, work, and resources.
Salary: Negotiable with a flexible work pattern
