Power Distribution Engineer Brilliance Executive Management Consultancy

Job Purpose
Power Distribution Engineer will take charge the implementation, supervision and documentation of a regular inspection, test and maintenance program on electrical power distribution systems and equipment. Ensuring continued compliance with national electrical regulations. Completing and maintaining Certifications of Appointment for Authorized Persons. Ensuring that full information and adequate instruction is given to anyone carrying out any work on the facility’s electrical power distributions system

 

 

Summary of Key Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing system modifications (including load changes and capacity improvements) so that the overall impact can be assessed and system integrity ensured
  • Ensuring that all system single line drawings, protection settings, short circuit and arc flash calculations/labels are accurate, complete, reflect latest system changes and are readily available
  • Develop and issue capacity ratings for transmission and distribution circuits and transformers
  • Perform preliminary engineering analysis necessary to investigate new projects
  • Prepare cost estimates on proposed design projects
  • Work Closely with the Surveyor to review completed designs
  • Coordinate projects with other work groups and departments
  • Maintain data in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Write technical instructions and procedures
  • Ensure that all work carried out is in accordance with Health & Safety legislation, company codes of practice and full compliance with Construction Design and Management (CDM) regulations
  • Be responsible for direct project and fault costs and see they are controlled and all associated volumes are recorded in a timely manner
  • Working independently to develop new algorithms and simulation tools, conducting case studies on existing models and tools
  • Coordinate and provide engineering oversight of site construction projects
  • Coordinate environmental, permitting and Right of Way requirement
  • Developing long range plans for distribution capacity expansion and reliability projects
  • Analyzing risk and value of projects to prioritize funding
  • Conduct electrical system analysis studies as required to improve system efficiency, system reliability and quality of service to customers
  • Develop and maintain computer programs that monitor substation and circuit loading
  • Support power quality investigations as needed
  • Meeting with internal and external customers to discuss current and future load requirements or concerns
  • Oversee Technical support during emergency response situations
  • valuate municipality, other utility and private developer plans to assess the need for facility modifications.
  • Design and manage projects according to Company and government specification

Primary Areas of Accountability:

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or related
  • A Masters in Electrical or Power Engineering will be a plus
  • Must have a minimum of 10 -15 years’ experience in Power Distribution / Power Engineering
  • Project Management experience in Power Distribution / Power Engineering Project will be plus
  • Should have the ability to operate associated test equipment including
    but not limited to spectrum analyzer, power meter, signal generator,
    oscilloscope, video waveform monitor, vector scope and transport stream
    analyzer
  • Must have expertise working with ARC GIS
  • Must be experienced in reviewing and evaluating Operations and Maintenance Compliance Records
  • Proven Experience with ISTA Testing
  • Good Computer Literacy Skills
  • Must be a Certified Professional Engineer (PE)
