Luapula Water Supply and Sanitation Company Limited (LpWSCO), is a Commercial Utility mandated to provide water supply and sanitation services to the urban and the rural areas of Luapula Province. The Company operates under the legal framework as outlined in the Water Supply and Sanitation Act No. 28 of 1997.
The Commercial Utility was incorporated under the Companies Act Cap 338 of the laws of Zambia and operates in five out of the twelve districts in the province, namely Mansa, Nchelenge, Mwense, Kawambwa and Samfya. The Commercial Utility, being an equal opportunity employer, seeks to recruit high profiled, self-motivated, innovative, honest, committed, adequately and appropriately experienced person to fill the vacant position of Operations Supervisor to be based in Mansa.
Job Purpose:
Supervise the repair and maintenance of water distribution network in the designated area in line with the planned maintenance program and service level guarantees in place.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Implements the planned maintenance schedules for the entire distribution network under his jurisdiction to ensure water supply in line with service level guarantees.
- Prepares daily, monthly, and quarterly reports and work programmes in the distribution network.
- Mobilises equipment and other resources required to undertake the repairs and maintenance works in the network in order to maintain water pressure, unaccounted for water and water contaminations.
- Plans the works programmes according to complaints received in coordination with the operations Engineer to ensure optimization of resources including time and provides feedback to subordinates.
- Supervises the annual cleaning/servicing of water trunk main line (31” to 6”) by loading the line at the highest pressure to flush out any debris that may have built up.
- Supervises the improvements in old, networked areas by replacing old lines with new ones to improve service provision.
- Conduct walkover surveys by walking through the water lines from the production centre to the boundary/district (DMAs) meters to identify sources of water losses and educe levels of unaccounted for water.
- Supervises the changing of main trunk line when need arises due to leakages or old age.
- Contributes to elaboration of the district budget by developing the sectional budget figures and thereafter budget monitoring during implementation to ensure adherence to budget provisions.
- Supervises, coaches, motivates, develops, and disciplines subordinates.
- Monitors, reviews, and agrees on performance of subordinates to ensure that they meet their agreed targets.
- Undertakes any other duties as may be assigned to him by the Operations Engineer.
Qualifications and Experience
- Full Grade twelve (12) School Certificate with at least five (5) ‘O’ level credits including English language and Mathematics.
- Diploma in water Engineering, a degree will be an added advantage.
- At least 3 years working experience in water utility or in a similar position.
- Must be a registered paid-up Member of the EIZ.
