Position Summary

The Technical Advisor for HIV Prevention (Key Population) will support the Program Director and play a crucial role in providing expert technical guidance on HIV prevention strategies, particularly focusing on key populations. This role is responsible for ensuring that program activities are evidence-based and aligned with global best practices in HIV prevention.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Offer expert technical guidance on HIV prevention strategies, with a specific focus on key populations.
  • Stay abreast of the latest research, trends, and developments in HIV prevention within key populations, and integrate this knowledge into program planning and implementation.
  • Provide technical assistance to program staff and partners to ensure that interventions are evidence-based, culturally sensitive, and tailored to the needs of key populations.
  • Collaborate closely with program managers and stakeholders to design, implement, and monitor HIV prevention activities, including the development of workplans, budgets, and monitoring frameworks.
  • Conduct regular assessments and evaluations of program activities to assess their effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
  • Build capacity among program staff and partners in HIV prevention, including through training sessions, workshops, and mentoring.
  • Represent the organization in relevant technical working groups, conferences, and meetings related to HIV prevention and key populations.
  • Contribute to the development of programmatic and research agendas related to HIV prevention and key populations.
  • Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organizations, and international partners working in HIV prevention.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • MBChB or its equivalent or health related degree, with a Master’s degree in a medical related field or Public Health.

Experience:

  • Experience in HIV prevention programming of at least 5 years and experience in HIV prevention among key populations.
  • Strong understanding of evidence-based HIV prevention interventions and global best practices.
  • Experience providing technical assistance and capacity building support to program staff and partners.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to analyze data and information to inform programmatic decision-making.
  • Familiarity with donor requirements and regulations, particularly in the context of HIV prevention programming.
  • Commitment to upholding ethical standards and promoting human rights in HIV prevention efforts.

  • Willingness to travel occasionally to project sites as required.

Language:

  • Fluency in English (speaking, reading, and writing).
