Programs Intern National Democratic Institute – Zambia

The National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization working to support and strengthen democratic institutions worldwide through citizen participation, openness and accountability in government. NDI has supported democratic institutions and practices in every region of the world for more than two decades. Since its founding in 1983, NDI and its local partners have worked to establish and strengthen political and civic organizations, safeguard elections, and promote citizen participation, openness and accountability in government. NDI will work in Zambia to support democratic institutions to better engage with stakeholders and citizens on national policy, legislation development and citizen concerns and priorities.

Programs Intern

The Programs Intern will provide day-to-day support for the implementation of programs, reporting and logistics/administrative support to the NDI programs staff.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in sound program activity development processes;
  • Participate in and support data collection and analysis against established instruments and protocols. Ensure timely data imputation and maintenance in accordance with all required protocols and completeness of data content;
  • Contribute to submission and development of program-related materials, including regular reports;
  • Support preparations for learning discussions and reflections;
  • Contribute to written political analysis on current events; and
  • Perform other duties, including logistics and administrative assignments, as required.

Required Qualification:

  • A recent graduate with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in politics, international relations, or related field;
  • Relevant work experience in international development and/or; democracy, human rights, women’s political participation, and/or inclusive governance-related program management. Research experience preferred;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English;
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines and assignments; and
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and Google work space applications.
