The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), a Statutory Body established by the Government of the Republic of Zambia under Section 3 of the Civil Aviation Authority Act No. 7 of 2012 to provide for the regulation and promotion of Civil Aviation in Zambia, is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons who are ambitious, innovative, energetic and performance driven to fill the vacancy of Inspector Aerodromes – Environmental & Wildlife Hazard Management Expert.
The Civil Aviation Authority is inviting applications from suitably qualified Zambian candidates to fill the position of Inspector Aerodromes – Environmental & Wildlife Hazard Management Expert.

JOB PURPOSE

To undertake effectively the regulation of aerodrome design/operations to ensure adherence to National and International Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) pertaining to Environment and Wildlife Hazard Management.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The job holder will be required to undertake the following responsibilities:

• Review and audit airport environmental policies to mitigate impact of airport activities e.g. noise, reduced air quality, heavy local traffic, or the presence of hazardous materials.
• Audit compliance of aerodromes in Zambia with the wildlife hazard management programmes: Ensure that animal hazard management programs are carried out appropriately and consider the impact of wildlife activities on aviation.
• Assist the State in the collection of Wildlife strike reports and forwarding the same to ICAO through the appropriate channels for inclusion in the ICAO Bird Strike Information System (IBIS) database. Further, the position holder shall analyze the wildlife strike reports and provide timely reports to the State on how to minimize the strikes using mutually agreed Safety Performance targets and Safety Performance indicators between the Authority and the aerodrome operators.
• Audit and ensure implementation of Civil Aviation and Local Authority Regulations pertaining to disposal of waste at aerodromes so that it is in accordance with applicable legislation.
• The officer will assist with formulation of technical guidance material related to Wildlife/Environmental management issues to answer to related ICAO Protocol Questions and help improve the Country’s EI.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

a) Minimum Primary/Secondary Education:

• Full Form V /Grade 12 Certificate with minimum of five (5) “O” Levels with credits including English and Mathematics.

b) Minimum Vocational/Professional Qualifications:

• BEng/BSc in Environment/Forestry/ or any other related qualifications
• The applicant MUST be a member of a relevant Professional Body with a valid practicing licence.

c) Minimum Relevant Pre-Job Experience

• 3 years minimum working experience.
• Women are encouraged to apply.

d) Other Attributes

• Negotiation skills,
• Computer literate,
• Analytical skills,
• Diplomatic, and,
• Familiarity with ICAO Convention, functions, standards and recommended practices.
