Maamba Collieries Limited (MCL), a Nava Group, has the largest coal mining concession and since commissioning in July 2016, operates the only coal-fired Thermal Power Plant in Zambia, adopting modern, eco-friendly mining and processing methods. As the largest Independent Power Producer in the country, the 300MW mine-mouth power plant at Maamba, caters to the growing demand for power and accounts for over 10% of the generation capacity, thereby contributing to the energy security and economic development of the nation.
Now Maamba Collieries Limited (MCL), a subsidiary of Nava Bharat Ventures Limited, is set to double its power generation capacity from 300 megawatts (MW) to 600 MW. This expansion, which falls under Phase II of MCL’s development plan, will involve the addition of 2 x 150MW (300MW) power units.

MCL is hereby advertising the following positions for expansion project 2 x 150 MW Thermal Power Plants located at Maamba, Zambia.

CIVIL ENGINEER

Location: Maamba
Position: 2 (Two)

Minimum Qualifications;

• Grade 12 certificate
• Diploma/ Degree in Civil Engineering.
• Zambian with NRC
• Must be a paid-up Member of Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ)
• 3 – 5 years’ work experience.
• Age of 24 to 35 years
• Proficient in AutoCad, Ms. Word and Excel / Good report writing abilities and communication skills.

OTHER JOD DETAILS (CIVIL ENGINEER – MAAMBA) ROLE OF THE POSITION

(Brief statement about the purpose of the position)
Attending the Civil works and developing & maintaining the green belt.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Project / Maintenance activities:

• Inspecting the buildings/establishments and attending the civil defect works.
• Civil Works Checking: Foundations, Rafts, shear walls, columns and slabs
• Concrete Quality checks; Checking of Concrete works, checking the Design Mix, Concrete properties, and concrete finishing works.
• Finishing works Quality checks:
• Checking of Brick Masonry, Plastering, Painting, floorings
• Preparing the estimations and intending the materials for Procurement.
• Supervising and Inspecting Civil works and checking/preparing the Bar bending schedules.
• Garden/green belt maintenance and enhancing the aesthetics and environment of the power plant areas.
• Implementation of safe maintenance practices.
• Controlling the cost of maintenance.
• Spares and Vendor management.
• Compliance with statutory requirements.
• Attending annual maintenance activities.
• Preparation of protocols / review of protocols submitted by contactor.

General

• Ensuring harmony among all the departments of the power plant.
• Ensuring good housekeeping.
• Manpower optimization & planning and monitoring of manpower requirements.
• Preparation of Daily progress reports, Weekly progress reports & punch points.
• Coordinate with contractors for the completion of daily work schedules.
• Maintenance of Toilets: Regularly attending to the defects and Upkeeping of Sanitary materials.

SECONDARY/ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Training and development of the downline staff.
• Avoid repetition of errors.
• Coordination in re-routing the underground pipelines is major concern in the plant today with respect to frequent leakages.
• Landscaping in the remaining areas of the plant.
• Stone pitching at various areas.
