Legal Assistant

ZCEA is seeking to recruit a Legal Assistant who will work under the direct supervision of the Child Friendly Citizens and Legal Advice Desk (CFCLAD) Project Officer and will be responsible for the following major duties:
Provide prompt, effective and free legal aid information and services to all who seek it in line with the UNCRC, ACRWC, Children’s Code Act No. 12 of 2022 and other child-related Zambian legislation and Case law.
Undertake public legal education and information dissemination on the child rights framework for and with children, their families and child service providers through the following platforms:
i Community dialogues.
ii. Children’s dialogues with child rights clubs in their communities and districts
iii. Conduct door to door sensitizations
iv. Conduct mobile legal clinics
v. Hold meetings with the Police, Judiciary, Department of Social Welfare, CBOs and others.
The Legal Assistant is answerable to the Executive Director, and shall perform his / her duties as a member of staff of ZCEA in contributing to the project objectives as outlined below:
Strengthened legal empowerment of children and their families through improved access to legal advice and services for reduced common forms of child rights violations.
Increased exercise and claims of the child rights provisions and Zambian child related legislations among children, parents / guardians for improved enforcement of child rights provisions.
Improved child protection services in the target districts through strengthened linkages among service providers.
Reduced pre and/or post-trial deprivation of liberty among children in conflict with the law for improved child wellbeing.
Required Qualifications and experience
Grade 12 school certificate or its equivalent
Bachelor’s degree in law
At least 2 years of work experience in legal drafting and mediation.
At least 2 years of work experience in children’s rights.
Must be a registered Legal Assistant with the Legal Aid Board.
Ability to manage time and meet strict deadlines.
Experience with using Microsoft Word and Excel
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
A certificate in Paralegal training certified by TEVETA will be an added advantage.
