Job Summary:
The Animal Husbandry Farm Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the daily operations of the farm, ensuring the health, well-being, and productivity of livestock. This role involves managing farm workers, implementing animal care protocols, maintaining farm facilities, and ensuring compliance with agricultural standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Livestock Management:
Oversee the feeding, watering, and general care of livestock.
Monitor animal health and administer medications or treatments as necessary.
Implement breeding programs and manage birthing processes.
Maintain detailed records of animal health, breeding, and production.
Farm Operations:
Plan and coordinate daily farm activities and work schedules.
Supervise and train farm workers, ensuring adherence to farm policies and procedures.
Inspect and maintain farm facilities, equipment, and pastures.
Manage the inventory of feed, supplies, and medications.
Health and Safety:
Ensure the farm complies with health and safety regulations.
Implement biosecurity measures to prevent disease outbreaks.
Conduct regular inspections to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
Administrative Duties:
Maintain accurate records of farm operations, including financial records, animal inventories, and maintenance logs.
Prepare and submit reports to the Farm Manager or Operations Manager as required.
Assist in budget preparation and cost control measures.
Sustainability and Improvement:
Identify and implement best practices for sustainable farming.
Continuously seek ways to improve animal welfare and farm efficiency.
Stay updated with advancements in animal husbandry techniques and technologies.
Qualifications:
Education:
Minimum of a Certificate in Animal Science, Agriculture, or a related field.
Experience:
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in animal husbandry or farm management.
Previous supervisory or managerial experience is preferred.
Skills:
Strong knowledge of livestock care and management practices.
Excellent leadership and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Proficiency in farm management software and basic computer skills.
Physical stamina and the ability to perform manual labor.
Certifications:
Relevant certifications in animal husbandry or farm management are a plus.
Working Conditions:
Work is primarily outdoors, requiring exposure to various weather conditions.
The role involves physical labor, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
