Executive Director ZAMCOM

The Zambia Institute of Mass Communication (ZAMCOM) was established under the ZAMCOM Act of Parliament of 1996 to provide Communications and Media training and production services. It owns two (2) subsidiaries ZAMCOM Lodge and ZAMCOM Radio.

In line with our corporate priorities aimed at ensuring optimization of performance in execution of our mandate, we are seeking highly motivated, result oriented, well qualified and experienced professional to fill an executive role as Executive Director/CEO.

1.0 Job Purpose

To plan, coordinate and control operations of the organisation and provide the strategic direction for managing the Organisation, determining its direction in terms of development and growth within the mandate given by the strategic plan, the Board as well as general guidelines; and to evolve the necessary policies, philosophy and plans.

2.0 Main Duties and Responsibilities

a. Develops and implements a long-term strategy and vision for the organisation that generates satisfactory levels of shareholder value and positive, reciprocal relations with relevant stakeholders.

b. Evaluates ZAMCOM budget plans including strategies against objectives/policies submitted by all Departments, providing guidance and ensuring that submissions are realistic and attainable and thereafter presents the budget to the Board for approval.

c. Reviews constantly the organisation’s performance against set objectives and plans as given in the organisation’s strategic plan and projects.

d. Ensures that necessary resources are marshaled to finance, equip and run planned operations and capital projects.

e. Ensures continuous improvement in quality and value of the two subsidiaries; ZAMCOM Lodge and ZAMCOM Radio in line with the mission and vision.

f. Chairs Executive Committee Meetings and Procurement Meetings.

g. Prepares and presents to the Board objective periodic reports of the organisation’s affairs/performance and related issues and implements resolutions of the Board within agreed timeframes.

h. Supervises subordinates and agrees, monitors and reviews their performance in order to ensure that they meet their agreed performance objectives/targets.

i. Performs any other duties as assigned by the Board from time to time.

3.0 Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Grade 12 certificate
  • Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university, in Business, Economics, Finance, Management, Mass Communication or a related field
  • MA/MBA in business, or communication is desirable
  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience at senior Management level;
  • Conversant with Projects, Financial, Marketing and Human Resource Management.
  • Should be very strategic and have a professional attitude to emerging issues;
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing and networking skills to interact with ZAMCOM members of staff, the Board, clients, Government, Cooperating Partners, the Business Community and other stakeholders at all levels to achieve ZAMCOM’s goals;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • High levels of integrity;
