Job Title: Emergency Logistics Specialist
Reporting: Emergency Operations Center Manager
Duration: 8-12 months
Location: Lusaka, Zambia
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
The Emergency Logistics Specialist specializes in the Logistics Section function of the National Emergency Operations Center. The Emergency Logistics Specialist will often and when directed, provide reports on the Logistical Component of the Drought Response, taking into account the logistical needs, challenges and associated solutions for all activated clusters as part of the National Emergency Operations Center’s Team.
Specific Tasks
1) Manages effectively the collection of information from clusters through meetings and briefings, and communication of the same to the Emergency Operations Center Manager.
2) Identify opportunities for resource optimization and cost-saving measures in logistical operations.
3) Interface with cluster leads and co-leads for the food security cluster, nutrition, early recovery (food production) clusters on logistical issues related to the clusters.
4) Manages effectively, information related to the logistics function of the drought emergency response.
5) Participates in inter- and intra-cluster meetings relevant to the logistics function.
6) Advises the Emergency Operations Center Manager and the Incident Commander on all matters related to logistics planning, facilities, communications and movement of supplies, services, and personnel for all relevant/activated sectors.
7) Respond and follow up with all inquiries (written and verbal) in a timely and professional manner related to outgoing and incoming resource orders.
8) Manages effectively equipment/resources in order to attain the set objectives.
9) Any other work that may be assigned by the Emergency Operations Manager or Directors at DMMU.
Minimum Education Qualifications, Experience, and Competencies:
1) Bachelor’s degree in relevant field, preferred
2) Minimum of four (4) years’ work experience
3) Ability to exercise confidentiality and high levels of ethics and professionalism required.
4) Experience working for a USAID implementer in Zambia preferred.
5) Required local certifications, as needed.
6) Strong initiative and self-motivation required, with a commitment to teamwork.
7) Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
8) Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
9) Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity.
10) Fluency in spoken and written English required.
