Furrer Foundation is hiring:
A Veterinary Assistant for its regenerative grazing project across different regions of Zambia
Do you want to be part of a regenerative livestock management project in a communal context?
About the project:
Over- as well as under-grazing are some of the main reasons for landscape degradation across Zambia.
To counter this the Furrer Foundation has developed a system of communal herding and communal rangeland management which is not only stopping the ongoing degradation but regenerating the landscape in Rufunsa District, Lusaka Province.
Furrer Foundation now has a mandate to spread the learnt regenerative livestock management principles on communal lands across Zambia.
Your responsibilities:
- Work with communities to adapt new, regenerative livestock management practices.
- Implement the principles learnt and systems developed in Rufunsa in other communal setups.
- Engage with the local community to develop annual grazing plans.
- Supervise herders and interns/assistants
- Manage livestock diseases in communal areas.
- Develop annual vaccination and other prophylactic treatment calendars for communities
- Conduct individual animal treatments and veterinary procedures in communal livestock herds
- Collaborate with outside experts to collect data on effect of the change in livestock management.
Your profile:
- Intrinsic motivation for sustainable agriculture and regenerative grazing.
- Minimum of a diploma in Veterinary Assistant
- Minimum of 3 years of hands on work experience as veterinary assistant.
- Experience in working with and living in rural communities.
- Native-level proficiency in spoken and written English and Nyanja.
- Creative, resourceful, and proactive relationship builder with a positive can-do attitude
Contractual aspects:
- Contract: Permanent, full-time, start date ideally early 2023 / by arrangement
- Salary: competitive and commensurate with experience and education
- Location: mainly Chirundu, but also Rufunsa, Mpulungu and Serenje
