The Organization
Zambia Open Community Schools (ZOCS) is a registered Non-Governmental Organization under the Societies Act Section 7 (1) under the Laws of Zambia. ZOCS is a vibrant and flagship organization of Community Schools since 1992 in Zambia that empowers communities to provide quality basic education to 224,847 learners (112,433 Boys and 112,414 Girls) in 1285 demonstration open community schools across 97 selected districts in all the 10 provinces of Zambia.
The pillars on which ZOCS builds its approach are those of enhanced educational opportunities for children through education policy engagement, increased community capacity to provide such opportunities and ensuring more and better education for more children in communities.
ZOCS is about open, accessible schools for disadvantaged children and communities, and these take priority over everything else.
ZOCS is inviting applications for the following positions to be based at Chinsanshi Skills Training Centre in Mungule, Chibombo District.
1. PRINCIPAL X 1
The Principal is responsible for the overall Management and Supervision of Chinsanshi Skills Training Centre and attainment of Strategic Objectives, viability and profitability in compliance with the TEVETA and Zambian Laws in an environmentally friendly, efficient, effective and sustainable approach.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Legal and Statutory Administration: Ensure that the Centre Complies with all TEVETA and other Legal and Statutory obligations required by Law.
2. Provision of Strategic and Programmatic Management for Centre Operations: Directs the development, implementation and review of the Strategic Plan, Policies, Regulations and Guidelines.
3. Provision of Leadership in Financial Management: Supervises financial resource management by coordinating the development of detailed annual implementing plans, budgets, financial statements and audits for prudent resource utilisation and asset management.
4. Academic and Course Administration: Provide oversight and coordinates the planning and management of all courses, maintains updated course schedules and academic calendars, upholds the integrity of academic records and all forms of certification for academic achievement.
5. Human Resource Management: Oversee Human Resource functions of staffing, employment contracts, job descriptions, succession planning, training and development, discipline and industrial relations, performance management and separations.
6. Student Affairs: Supervise enrollment and retainment, school fees and payments, welfare of the students and allumni activities.
7. Resource Mobilization: Provide leadership in advocacy, marketing and resource mobilization for the centre.
8. Corporate Governance: Ensure that good Corporate Governance practices and reporting are maintained.
9. Communication and Collaboration: Ensure smooth flow of information and attend meetings with ZOCS, Ministry of Education, TEVETA, students, partners, donors, stakeholders, colleges, universities.
10. Research and Development: Coordinate and promote research, development initiative and innovation activities.
11. Procurement: Ensure that all procurements are done according to the Zambia Public Procurement Authority
12. Any other duties that related to the Centre.
Minimum Qualifications and Professional Experience
1. Full Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent.
2. Bachelor’s Degree in education or any TEVET and skills science related profession.
3. A Certificate in Entrepreneurship or business related course will be an added advantage.
4. TEVETA accreditation and professional body.
5. At least two years experience in managing a TEVET Skills training centre or college.
6. At least three years experience working with a TEVET Accredited Institute or teaching TEVET skills (Government Facility will be an added advantage).
7. Proven record of setting up skills training centre, institute or college.
8. Proven experience of working with Ministry of Education and TEVETA structures.
9. Understanding of full TEVETA operational guidelines and regulations.
