Bureau Veritas Zambia requires services of a Laboratory Manager to organize, Manage and operate Bureau Veritas Sampling and Testing Analytical Laboratory applying technical competences and skills in line with ISO/IEC17025:2005 technical requirements in a timely and effective manner focusing on meeting the client’s needs while continually adding value.
The Job holder will report to the Country Manager in the division & department of Metals & Minerals based on the Copperbelt Kitwe and will perform the Job in the framework of the Bureau Veritas Quality Assurance System, the code of Ethics and the Bureau Veritas Group Polices.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 certificate with 5 ‘O’ levels; credit or better in Mathematics, Chemistry and English Language being a must.
- Minimum of a Bachelors’ degree in Natural Sciences majoring in Chemistry and any related technical field.
- A minimum of 5 years’ work experience in Plant Site Lab Chemist roles and functions in a reputable organisation.

Job Specification
Duties and Responsibilities
- Laboratory supervision, monitoring and providing leadership in the generation of timely and accurate laboratory assays of Metallurgical plant process, exploration drilling and run-of-mine sample
- Maintaining compliance and continued certification of the laboratory to ISO/EC 17025 Quality management System standard through internal and external audit participation
- Monitoring usage of LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) In managing and securing laboratory data and ensuring its availability
- QA/QC activities monitoring assey results applying trend charts (Shewart Control Charts) taking necessary and immediate corrective action measures with the help of LIMS
- Budgeting, planning and management of laboratory equipment, critical spares and consumables availability for a remotely located laboratory
- Method developmental and revision of standard operating procedures
- Reporting of departmental activities to senior management, weekly and monthly reporting of general laboratory operations and activities
- Retraining, re-education and organization of lab staff according to work priorities
- Communication meetings with mining, geology and metallurgy department on process changes as a part of planning
- Calibration schedules of key laboratory equipment to ensure conformity and acceptability to a minimum operating standard
- Arranging visits for specialized service of critical analytical equipment from remote locality
- Coordinating third party analysis and benchmarking laboratory performance through external and international samples and assey exchange programs
- Recruiting and training laboratory staff in sampling, sample preparation and chemical analysis of mining, metallurgy and environmental samples
- send out proposals to clients and develop the business to a sustainable revenue per month
- Attend sales meetings with clients and internally
