Maintenance Supervisor African Parks

Background

African Parks is a non-profit conservation organization founded in 2000 that manages 22 national parks and protected areas in 12 countries covering 20 million hectares. This is achieved through long-term agreements with national governments, putting in place funding solutions and establishing good governance and management to achieve ecological, social and financial sustainability.

Job Purpose

The Maintenance Supervisor assist the Field Operations Manager to ensure reliable, cost-effective operations and efficient implementation of the strategies of African Parks in line with the Business plan

  1. Oversee facility management in the workshop including keeping proper track of procurements and maintaining inventory of equipment
  2. Support the Field Operations Manager in ensuring sufficient planning and forecasting for the Workshop;
  3. Promote accountability, communicate expectations, and provide constructive feedback informally and formally via regular one on ones and performance reviews
  4. Overseeing all maintenance-related activities, including repairs, replacements, and upkeep of equipment, facilities, buildings and grounds. This includes all sites related to LPNP.
  5. Developing and enforcing maintenance schedules
  6. Managing maintenance budgets and ensuring compliance with legal and safety regulations
  7. Supervising maintenance workers, hiring and training new team members, and providing feedback
  8. Serving as a liaison between the maintenance team and other departments, and communicating plans for improvements to maintenance staff
  9. Identifying areas for improvement, troubleshooting minor issues, and resolving problems as they arise
  10. Developing company policies and standard operating procedures
  11. Responding to maintenance emergencies
  12. Develop maintenance procedures and ensure implementation
  13. Carry out inspections of the facilities to identify and resolve issues
  14. Check electrical and hydraulic systems of buildings to ensure functionality
  15. Plan and oversee all repair and installation activities
  16. Allocate workload and supervise upkeep staff (custodians, janitors etc.)
  17. Monitor equipment inventory and place orders when necessary
  18. Manage relationships with contractors and service providers
  19. Keep maintenance logs and report on daily activities
  20. Ensure health and safety policies are complied with

Qualification

  • 5 years management experience.
  • Proven experience in water management systems.
  • Project management experience beneficial.
  • Possess a certificate of good conduct from recognized law enforcing authority from the country;
  • Exceptional communication skills delivered both verbally and in writing;
  • Skills in managing, organizing, planning and implementing assigned tasks under pressure of frequent and tight schedules;
  • Ability to gather and analyse data and to work with figures
  • Strong ability to apply good judgment and decision-making skills in difficult and complex working environments.
