CROP PRODUCTION OFFICER
The Crop Production Officer reports to the Estate Manager. The successful candidate should be able to apply acceptable agronomic practices and produce high quality crops.
Main Responsibilities
- Establishes physical requirements for each crop field based on the budget and analysis of soil requirements.
- Produces production statistical reports and crop evaluation reports periodically.
- Supervises weather station to facilitate irrigation scheduling. and ensures that the field irrigation requirements are met.
- Monitors crop growth.
- Implements quality and quantity standards.
- Coordinates pest and disease surveillance, weed control and infield slashing.
- Monitors ripping/ridging on Estate fields.
- Carryout maintenance works on all existing canal and drainages on the Estate and establish new ones as per agreed budget.
- Manages forest conservation on the Estate.
- Arranges and coordinates land preparation for Estate fields.
- Coordinates herbiciding for Estate fields.
- Timorously arrange for the planting/replanting of identified fields.
- Ensure that trash management is carried out immediately after harvest.
- Timorously request for the necessary resources in agreed quantities and quality.
- Scheduling and monitoring irrigation drip, overhead and flood irrigated fields and ensures that the field irrigation requirements are met.
Qualifications and experience
- Degree in Agriculture/ Crop Science/ or other Agriculture disciplines.
- 5 years’ experience in sugarcane production.
- Working knowledge of farm equipment will be added advantage.
- High level computer literacy in Microsoft office, word and excel desired.
Strengths in Agronomy & Agric business planning / management will be added advantage. - Experience in working with sub surface drip will be added advantage.
- Must have a valid driver’s licence.
- Must be a member of AIZ
