Project Overview

The Roads and Access Project will improve selected road segments, improve access by rural populations to markets and other services within selected agriculture corridors, and support capacity building for improved performance in road asset management in Zambia through policy and institutional reforms in the road sector.

The Scope of Works includes

  1. A feasibility study of road investment options identified by the GRZ in order to define the content of the Roads and Access Project (R&AP), and
  2. Detailed design of the selected prioritized options and preparation of the technical content for civil works bidding documents.

The purpose of the Feasibility Study and Preliminary Design phase is to identify and evaluate technical solutions that can be applied to each segment of road and determine the optimal treatment in terms of technical feasibility, economic viability, sustainability, and environmental and social compliance.

The purpose of the Detailed Designs and Tender Documents will be to define the scope, provide specifications, complete environmental and related studies, and estimate the cost of road works improvements. The preparation of Detailed Designs, ESIAs and Tender Documents will be carried out to support the preferred solution as confirmed by the Client.
