JOB ADVERT – SHE (SAFETY, HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL) OFFICER.
Aller Aqua Zambia Limited invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of SHE Officer. The role reports to the SHE Manager and will be based at the Aller Aqua Zambia Factory, in Siavonga.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH & SAFETY LEGAL AND REGULATORY COMPLIANCE
- Ensuring that all licenses, permits, certifications and other regulatory requirements pertaining to Environmental, Health and Safety are in place and valid, including renewals.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of the factory and workstations to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
- Conduct regular fire drills and emergency response training, and ensure that emergency equipment, such as fire extinguishers, are functional and accessible.
- Ensure the factory is compliant with relevant local and international safety standards and regulations.
- Staying abreast of any changes in current EHS-related legislation and the implementation of such changes to the company’s management system, policies and procedures where applicable.
- Ensuring that all incidents are reported and investigated in accordance with legal requirements.
- Coordinate workplace health checks and ensure compliance with occupational health requirements.
- Ensure that first-aid facilities are well-maintained, and that staff are trained in first-aid procedures.
- Coordinate the annual Silicosis reviews for all members by timely and promptly arranging for travels when due.
2. LEADERSHIP AND TRAINING
- Assist in the identification of training needs and processed promptly and are undertaken at the appropriate time to raise safety awareness and ensure accountability for health and safety within all levels of the company.
- Lead assignment of the toolbox talks for all safety awareness talks within the company premises.
- Conduct SHE orientation for new employees and provide refresher training sessions regularly.
- Maintain a SHE training matrix and keep records of all training sessions, certifications, and compliance
3. ORGANISATIONAL H&S MANAGEMENT
- Assist in developing and implementing a comprehensive OHS Risk Management Strategy.
- Assist in coordinating EHS communications including mandatory monthly EHS Management meetings.
- Assist in the successful implementation of all environmental requirements of the Environmental and Social Management system (ESMS).
- Assist in the management of the capital and expense budget for the organization’s H&S operations, ensuring budgets are properly controlled and managed, to achieve best value for money.
- Monitor day to day activities on site to ensure that EHS policies and procedures are implemented and strictly adhered to and meet Aller Aqua and legislative requirements.
- Coordinate a schedule for regular site inspections ensuring that the prescribed Safe Work Procedures are being observed and the operations are controlled as directed.
- Assist in the development of site-specific risk assessments and control measures. Development and maintenance of a risk register for all operational sites.
- Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and promote its consistent usage among all employees.
- Assist in the drafting process of Safe Work Procedures (SWP’s) and providing input into Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) adapted to the local context.
- Assist in the development of EHS training materials and conduct trainings.
- Assist in the compilation of EHS reports and generation of management insights using available platforms.
- Maintain all necessary documentation for SHE compliance, including safety data sheets (SDS), incident reports, and training records.
QUALIFICATION, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:
- Full Grade Twelve School Certificate (GCE)
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and SHE management software.
- Active member of the Zambia Occupational Health and Safety Association (ZOHSA).
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to hazard identification and resolution.
- Candidates between 30-35 years are encouraged to apply
- Ability to speak the local language (Tonga) is an added advantage.
