Main Purpose of the Job:
The Maintenance Technician will be responsible for all quality related matters. The position will need to attend to technical investigations, perform internal and external audits, review and monitor QC information. The position may need to travel to ALS laboratories in the region as required.

Main tasks and responsibilities:
• Ensure all routine maintenance tasks are attended to timeously to ensure minimal downtime on all laboratory instrumentation and auxiliary equipment
• Ensure preventative maintenance schedules are in place and adhered to, to ensure minimal instrument breakdowns
• Plan preventative maintenance schedules periodically to ensure smooth running of the laboratory facility
• Liaise with equipment vendors and plan preventative maintenance to ensure minimum downtime of the laboratory operations
• Source equipment from credible suppliers to ensure low costs on maintenance and short lead times
• Liaise with all section heads on preventative maintenance schedule in line with operational requirements
• Coordinate the manpower resources within the maintenance department to ensure efficiency in attending to breakdowns and all maintenance schedules
• Supervise the teams’ outputs, manage performance and train where necessary to provide an optimal support infrastructure to the operational unit
• Attend weekly production meetings with constructive input to the overall goals of the operations unit
• Ensure regular housekeeping inspections to assess the day to day up keep of the site and to ensure support equipment is in functional conditions at all times.
• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
• Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
Human Resources:
• Plan and implement work schedules to maintain TAT
• Review update and approve timesheets in accordance to work schedules
• Ensure time and attendance in strict accordance with ALS policies for all staff in the area of responsibility i.e. timeous completion of monthly timesheets, appropriate leave planning, etc.
• Apply Company disciplinary code within the department as when necessary
• Manage employee FTE ratings within the department to ensure compliance
• Conduct and complete the performance management reviews for staff in department
• Assist with the recruitment of direct line reports and facilitate all inter-departmental transfers and re-deployment
• Train staff on departmental processes and SOP’s

Qualifications:
• Artisans certificate
• Minimum 5 years’ supervisory experience
• Experience in analytical laboratories with sound technical knowledge.
• Power tools experience
• Sound Technical / mechanical knowledge and understanding
• Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Internet Explore
• Fluent English (written and spoken)
