POSITION: NATIONAL COORDINATOR
The Zambia Climate Change Network (ZCCN) is designed to support the adoption of climate change strategies in Zambia through collaborative efforts and the practical experiences of Network members across sectors. The Network derives its mandate from the Zambian Government’s accession to various global environmental, natural resources, and climate change agreements aimed at mitigating climate change and building resilience through adaptation in livelihoods and production systems.
As a civil society organization, ZCCN is member-driven and registered under the Registrar of Societies. The organization has a strong ambition to increase membership and reach Zambians affected by climate change.
In order to implement its mandate, ZCCN is looking for a qualified, experienced, and self-motivated individual to fill the position of National Coordinator under the Network’s Secretariat in Lusaka.
Reporting to the Board, the National Coordinator will be responsible for:
- Overall coordination of ZCCN members, building their capacities and enhancing collaboration.
- Leading donor engagements and developing bankable proposals to mobilize resources for Network activities.
- Maintaining good working relationships among network members, including the Ministry of Green Environment and Economy and other relevant ministries, donors, and technical supporters.
- Leading the assessment of members’ capacity needs on climate mitigation and adaptation and coordinating capacity building to support member organizations.
- Raising the profile and visibility of the Network through media engagements and proper use of IEC (Information, Education, Communication) materials.
- Ensuring Network representation on relevant climate change-related standing committees and at relevant meetings and events.
- Coordinating the compilation of narrative and financial reports to meet internal and donor reporting requirements.
- Developing terms of reference for staff and short-term consultants engaged on specific assignments for the Network.
- Coordinating the hosting of Secretariat monthly, quarterly, and annual planning and review meetings.
- Monitoring progress and implementation of the Network’s annual plans.
- Acting as Secretariat to the Network board meetings, general assemblies, and any other meetings called by the Network Board.
- Providing oversight and leadership to staff recruited under the Network Secretariat, including Finance and Administration, Programs, Monitoring and Evaluation, and Communication staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Preferably a bachelor’s degree in Climate Change, Environmental and Natural Resources Management, Agriculture, Development, Economics, or a related field.
- Master’s degree in any of the above courses from a recognized institution is an advantage.
- Training in leadership and management, project management is an advantage.
- Computer literacy: Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and web conferencing applications.
Knowledge and Experience:
- At least five (5) years’ experience designing and/or implementing development programs, particularly those related to environment and natural resources and agriculture.
- Strong understanding of climate change and its impacts on various stakeholders.
- A good working knowledge of climate mitigation and adaptation approaches.
- Proven experience in resource mobilization through donor engagement and developing bankable proposals.
- Strategic thinker, able to analyze and scan the external environment to determine impactful actions for the Network.
- Ability to work independently and self-driven in a fast-paced environment with time-bound deliverables.
- Ability to think, plan, and execute resourcefully, creatively, and transparently with limited supervision.
- Knowledge of financial and procurement procedures.
- Proven experience in strategic program oversight and coordination of projects.
- Proven experience in advocacy actions with a strong ability to engage with the media and the public.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, including reporting, facilitation, and representation.
- Experience in managing network organizations.
