Internship to provide support in the HR Unit at GIZ Office Zambia
Background
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is the implementing agency of the Federal Republic of Germany for technical and international cooperation. It offers flexible, sustainable and effective solutions in political, economic and social change processes. Most of the work of GIZ is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). GIZ also operates on behalf of other German ministries as well as public and private bodies in Germany and abroad. These include the European Commission, the United Nations, the World Bank and governments of other countries.
GIZ Office Zambia provides administrative services to GIZ projects and programmes in Zambia as well as in Zimbabwe. In order to meet the growing needs of its expanding portfolio, GIZ Zambia HR unit will require support from a national intern as follows.
The intern will support the HR unit with:
- The recruitment and selection process for national personnel
- Training and HR development of national personnel
- Contract management
- General clerical and HR administrative tasks
Tasks/responsibilities:
The tasks of the national intern will include but may not be limited to the following:
- Providing support in contract management
- Providing support with staff Induction workshop
- Assisting in the pre-selection stage of the recruitment and selection of
national personnel and drawing up employment contracts - Providing support in the coordination of interviews
- Providing support in the coordination of training and HR development
measures for national personnel - Providing support in HR administrative and general HR related tasks when needed
- Support with filing of HR documents
- Performing any other tasks on an ad hoc basis at the request of line
manager
Qualifications and competences:
The national intern is expected to:
- Have a minimum of a Diploma in Human Resources Management (HRM),
- Applicants must have their qualifications validated by the Zambia
Qualifications Authority (ZAQA) - He/she must have graduated within the last two (2) years
- Must be a member of Zambia Institute of Human Resource Management (ZIHRM)
- Be a team player and service-oriented
- Have strong ability to multi task duties and apply practical problem-
solving skills when needed - Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Show persistence when faced with challenges and remain calm in handling complex situations
- Be fluent in English both written and oral and articulate himself/herself well
- Be able to work to tight deadlines
- Have strong ICT skills (i.e. MS Word, MS Excel, MS Teams, Powerpoint, MS Outlook etc.)
Benefits
The intern will be paid a monthly allowance to assist with transport and lunch costs. The internship provides an opportunity for him/her to gain experience in and learn about HR (e.g. training and development, recruitment and selection, HR administration, etc.). Furthermore, the intern will learn how to work in a multicultural setting. Upon successful completion of the assignment, GIZ will provide an internship certificate for the intern who fulfils the commitments with integrity, professionalism and respect for diversity.
Duration and expected start date
The duration of the internship will be for 6 months.
