KGL Community Development Corporation Limited (KGLCDC) is a newly formed entity, established to spearhead Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for Kafue Gorge Lower Power Development Corporation Limited.
Job Brief
The Project Engineer plays a crucial role in integrating engineering expertise with sustainability principles to deliver successful CSR projects that benefit communities, the environment, and society as a whole.
Responsibilities
- Project Planning and Design: Collaborate with stakeholders to define project objectives, BOQs, scope, and requirements. Develop engineering plans and designs for CSR projects, ensuring alignment with sustainability goals and best practices.
- Technical Expertise: Provide technical expertise and guidance on engineering solutions related to CSR initiatives, such as renewable energy systems, waste management, water conservation, or sustainable infrastructure development.
- Feasibility Studies: Conduct feasibility studies and assessments to evaluate the technical viability of CSR projects, considering factors such as environmental impact, resource availability, regulatory requirements, and cost-effectiveness.
- Procurement and Vendor Management: Identify and procure materials, equipment, and services required for CSR projects. Manage vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, and ensure compliance with quality standards and sustainability criteria.
- Construction Management: Oversee the construction of CSR projects, coordinating with contractors, subcontractors, and project teams to ensure timely and efficient implementation. Monitor progress, resolve technical issues, and ensure adherence to safety and environmental regulations.
- Quality Assurance and Control: Implement quality assurance and control measures to ensure that engineering designs and construction activities meet established standards, specifications, and regulatory requirements. Conduct inspections and audits to verify compliance and identify areas for improvement.
- Risk Management: Identify potential risks and hazards associated with CSR projects, such as construction delays, cost overruns, safety incidents, or environmental impacts. Develop risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans to minimise negative outcomes.
- Environmental Compliance: Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, permits, and certifications relevant to CSR projects. Implement measures to minimise environmental impacts and promote sustainable practices throughout the project lifecycle.
- Monitoring and Evaluation: Establish monitoring and evaluation systems to track project performance, collect data on key performance indicators (KPIs), and prepare reports and recommendations for project stakeholders.
- Community Engagement: Engage with local communities and stakeholders affected by CSR projects, fostering positive relationships, addressing concerns, and promoting community involvement in project planning and implementation.
- Capacity Building: Provide training and capacity-building support to community members to enhance technical skills, and promote local employment.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records, documentation, and project files throughout the project lifecycle. Prepare progress reports, technical specifications, and other documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from a University of recognised standing and a minimum of five (5) years of experience related to the construction roads, dams and other community infrastructure.
- Demonstrated commitment to occupational health and safety.
- Demonstrated managerial and leadership skills combined with excellent interpersonal skills and a proven track record as a team player are essential.
- Demonstrated skills and experience in solving complex and sensitive matters.
