Policy Advocacy & Campaigns Manager Zambia Alliance for Agroecology and Biodiversity

The Zambia Alliance for Agroecology and Biodiversity (ZAAB) is seeking a passionate and dedicated Policy Advocacy & Campaigns Manager to join our dynamic team. ZAAB is a Zambian registered organisation with a nationwide network representation and a secretariat based in Lusaka. Our members include civil society and faith-based organisations, farmer and consumer rights groups, as well as individuals and international partners.

About ZAAB: Our mission is to support the widespread adoption of agroecology as a foundation for building an equitable and nutritious food system in Zambia, fostering resilience to climate change, and promoting citizens’ rights to food sovereignty and quality of life for all. We advocate against the monopolistic and corporate-led control of local food systems, toxic chemicals, synthetic biology, and GMOs. We promote ecological governance, sustainable farming systems, and climate justice.

Role Overview: As a Policy Advocacy & Campaigns Manager, you will support ZAAB Alliance members and the secretariat in research, advocacy, and communication interventions. You will leverage relationships, develop capacities, and manage knowledge. Additionally, you will facilitate local, regional, and global linkages, networking, and fundraising opportunities for ZAAB. You will also assist the National Coordinator with donor relations, project management, and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and management of advocacy interventions and plans.
  • Provide strategic guidance on policy positioning.
  • Offer technical support to Alliance members on policy advocacy and communications.
  • Manage donor and strategic partner relations.
  • Initiate and support research and the development of policy briefs.
  • Manage strategic relationships and identify opportunities for resource mobilization.
  • Participate in staff and organisational activities, supporting capacity development.
  • Monitor and evaluate ZAAB’s advocacy work.
  • Enhance ZAAB’s visibility, public relations, and media relations.
  • Produce quarterly and annual reports.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant social sciences.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Agriculture, Food Systems, programme/project management, or advocacy.
  • Knowledge of agroecology and sustainable food systems is an advantage.
  • Skills in fundraising, networking, and alliance building.
  • Understanding of Zambia’s policy, legal, and institutional framework related to food systems.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
  • Mature and effective in people and community relations, a team player and motivator.
  • Flexible and adaptable in a fast-changing context.
