The Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) is a Christian, Membership, Non Partisan, Non-Governmental Organization (NGOs) dedicated to the empowerment of the community (especially women , youth and children) to contribute to the attainment of a just society through rights-based approaches and sustainable interventions. YWCA is one of the oldest women’s organizations and since its inception in Kitwe, Zambia in 1957, YWCA has continued to stand at the forefront of social change and tackling gender injustices such as gender based violence, including child marriage and sexual reproductive health rights violations.
YWCA with support from OXFAM in Zambia will be implementing a project dubbed Inclusive Education Programme in Zambia. The project is to be implemented in Kabwe, Kapiri-Mposhi, Chitambo and Serenje districts of Central Province in Zambia. The project is tailored to provide scholarships for young women and Girls in the Central Province of Zambia targeting 40 schools (10 per district).
The main objectives/expected outcomes of the Grant are to contribute to partner country government efforts to achieve progress against Sustainable Development Goals 4 (education for all) and five (gender equality), through activities carried out in Zambia. The focus of the project is to increase the provision of scholarships and other supportive interventions aimed to remove barriers for young women to access and complete secondary education and transition from secondary to tertiary education and TVET. The project will also work to increase girls and women’s enrollment, retention, participation, and performance in Technical and Vocation and Training (TVET) and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects.
YWCA seeks to recruit a qualified and experienced candidate for the role of PROJECT OFFICER.
MAIN DUTIES
- Implementation and Supervision of the Oxfam supported All Inclusive Education Programme.
- Coordinate & implement school and community led interventions in conjunction with various stakeholder such as government, traditional leaders, community leaders and parents.
- The creation and running of Girls Clubs (Safe Spaces) in identified schools.
- Submit weekly/monthly reports to regional and national offices as and when requested.
- Attend and participate in project, donor and partner meetings in relation to the project and scope of work.
- In liaison with the project coordinator, represent YWCA in partnership meetings at District level.
- Any other activities assigned by the organization.
REQUIREMENTS
- Degree in social sciences, education or any related qualifications.
- At least three years’ experience in an NGO.
- Experience in the management and coordination of school-based scholarships for vulnerable learners Able to communicate in local language –added advantage.
- Knowledge in gender inequalities in educational attainment and participation in education.
- Experience in training and/or facilitation of community development.
- Passionate about adolescent’s welfare and education.
- The ability to gather, process, and communicate information effectively, often in the form of written or oral reports.
- Good interpersonal skills and a team player.
- Able to work with minimum supervision.
