JOB ADVERT – MECHANICAL & ELECTRICAL INTERNSHIP.
Aller Aqua Zambia Limited invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of Interns – Mechanical and Electrical. Both roles report to the Plant Engineering Manager and will be based at the Aller Aqua Zambia Factory, in Siavonga.
1. MECHANICAL INTERN.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in preventive and corrective maintenance of mechanical systems, including conveyors, gearboxes, boilers, and extruders.
- Support troubleshooting and repair of rotating and static equipment to minimize production downtime.
- Perform lubrication, alignment, and calibration of mechanical components under supervision.
- Assist in assembling, installing, and testing mechanical systems.
- Ensure proper alignment and tensioning of drive belts, chains, and couplings.
- Support performance testing of newly installed equipment to ensure operational efficiency.
- Observe and analyze mechanical failures, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
- Assist in inspecting worn-out components and preparing reports on equipment performance.
- Support vibration analysis and thermal imaging inspections where applicable.
- Adhere to mechanical safety protocols when working with heavy machinery and rotating equipment.
- Assist in conducting risk assessments and safety audits for mechanical systems.
- Ensure compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and industry safety guidelines.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying inefficiencies in mechanical processes.
- Assist in documenting maintenance schedules, repair logs, and spare parts inventory.
- Collaborate with engineers to develop Standard Maintenance Procedures (SMPs).
QUALIFICATION, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:
- Full Grade Twelve School Certificate (GCE)
- Recent graduates with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field are encouraged to apply.
- Basic understanding of industrial mechanical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, and thermodynamics.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
2. ELECTRICAL INTERN.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in diagnosing and repairing faults in electrical systems, including motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and control panels.
- Support routine inspection of power distribution boards, motor control centers (MCCs), and electrical switchgear.
- Help identify and replace damaged electrical components to ensure continuous plant operation.
- Assist in the installation, calibration, and maintenance of industrial sensors, including temperature, pressure, level, and flow sensors.
- Support troubleshooting of sensor malfunctions and ensure accurate signal transmission to PLCs and SCADA systems.
- Verify sensor accuracy through test procedures and adjust calibration settings as needed.
- Assist in installing and testing electrical systems such as motors, transformers, automated control circuits, and sensor networks.
- Support calibration and programming of VFDs, PLCs, and instrumentation devices.
- Verify proper wiring connections, grounding, and insulation resistance testing before commissioning.
- Assist in monitoring and optimizing power consumption in the plant.
- Support electrical load analysis to prevent overloading and voltage fluctuations.
- Help identify power factor correction opportunities to improve energy efficiency.
- Support scheduled maintenance of electrical systems, including thermal imaging of electrical panels.
- Assist in maintaining records of voltage readings, equipment performance, and maintenance logs.
- Work with engineers to develop maintenance schedules for electrical components and sensor systems.
- Adhere to electrical safety protocols when working with high-voltage systems and live equipment.
- Assist in performing risk assessments and ensuring compliance with industry electrical standards.
- Use proper tools and personal protective equipment (PPE) to maintain a safe work environment.
QUALIFICATION, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:
- Full Grade Twelve School Certificate (GCE)
- Recent graduates with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field are encouraged to apply.
- Basic understanding of industrial electrical systems, including motor control circuits, relays, PLCs, and sensor integration.
- Hands-on experience with electrical troubleshooting tools such as multimeter, clamp meters, and signal testers.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in reading technical drawings and mechanical schematics.
