Job Overview
Trent Financial Services Limited is seeking a highly skilled Gold Assayer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in testing and analyzing ores and minerals, determining gold purity and value, and ensuring secure storage and transportation of gold. The candidate will also play a key role in obtaining gold trading licensing, developing a network of stakeholders, and overseeing gold trading operations across Zambia.
1.0 JOB PURPOSE
To provide gold assaying and trading services while ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with legal and company standards.
2.0 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Testing & Analysis:
Use specialized laboratory equipment and chemical solutions to test ores and minerals.
Conduct assays using XRF, Water Density kits, and other tools to determine gold content.
Evaluate and refine elements within gold samples using qualitative and quantitative methods.
Trading & Transactions:
Receive and attend to gold sellers, including individuals and entities.
Determine gold value based on assay results and prevailing market prices.
Issue receipts for transactions and maintain detailed trading records.
Ensure secure storage of cash and gold at buying centers.
Dispatch gold ore to the central storage facility in Lusaka as per schedule.
Stakeholder Engagement & Market Expansion:
Obtain artisanal mining and gold trading licenses.
Establish and maintain relationships with gold miners, traders, and buyers in Rufunsa, Lundazi, Chipata, Serenje, Chitambo, and other gold-rich areas.
Identify and engage communities willing to trade gold for essential commodities such as food, solar equipment, mobile phones, bicycles, and motorbike spare parts.
Monitor artisanal mining activities and build a network of trusted off-takers, including companies and international buyers.
Administrative & Compliance Duties:
Prepare and submit regular reports on gold trading activities and stock levels.
Ensure compliance with company policies on cash handling, banking, gold storage, and transportation.
Participate in training sessions with stakeholders to improve processes.
Keep abreast of global bullion market trends and best practices.
3.0 QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering, Metallurgy, or Geology from the University of Zambia or a reputable institution.
Professional Membership: Paid-up member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).
Experience: Minimum 5 years in a similar role, preferably in a fast-paced trading environment handling frequent transactions and cash.
Knowledge:
Strong understanding of Zambia’s gold mining and trading sector.
Familiarity with artisanal mining practices and gold trading regulations.
Awareness of bullion markets and global gold trade processes.
Skills:
Excellent planning, budgeting, and organizational abilities.
High level of integrity, honesty, and adherence to company policies.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic record-keeping.
Other Requirements:
Age: Preferably 30 years and older with a stable background.
Character: Honest, God-fearing, with no past criminal record.
Mobility: Must be willing to travel across Zambia and internationally for gold trading.
License: Must hold a valid driver’s license.
